Description:This is an audio-video recording where Flaviano Juárez Mateo narrates how the Fiesta de San Francisco takes place in Motozintla de Mendoza, Chiapas, Mexico. Fiesta de San Francisco is also known as the Fiesta Mocho’ or Fiesta de Tata Chico. This is the main festival in Motozintla de Mendoza, and it used to be much bigger than it is nowadays. This festival was organized by Mocho' people, and everybody was welcomed; non-mocho’ local people and people from the surrounding communities. In the first audio-video recording MHC_FJM_NARR_La_fiesta_de_San_Francisco-1 Flaviano tells us about the organization, how many days they had to work for the festival, the people who participate in, and how many participants were in the activities. He also tells us about the pusunqe, a traditional Mocho' beverage (non-alcoholic), what the ingredients are and how they make it. He compares the old days with the contemporary Fiesta Mocho' and he says that nowadays is not well organized. There is not enough food neither the same amount of participants. The organizers do not invite the neighboring communities, and they even sell the pusunqe. In the second recording MHC_FJM_NARR_La_fiesta_de_San_Francisco-2 he keeps criticizing the whole organization of the Fiesta Mocho’. In the Fiesta de San Francisco the pusunqe used to be free for everybody, but now they sell each cup of pusunqe for five pesos, and that there is not enough for everybody who comes to the festival. He remembers how happy the festival used to be. He also says that nowadays, the Priostes, traditional prayers, do not pray in Mocho' because they do not speak the language. He also says what they used to eat traditional food made with chipilín (herb) and black beans, and that that food is no longer offered during these festivities.
