| Description: | This is an audio-video recording of a narrative from Flaviano Juárez Mateo about how Mocho’ people used to plant corn, what kind of corn they used to plant, and the way they venerate earth to have the best harvest. In the first recording MHC_FJM_NARR_La_tradicion_de_la_siembra_del_maiz-1 he narrates how they used to pray during the planting season, and how the prayer was performed by the shaman. He even tells us a bit about the discourse of the prayer. Flaviano tells us what types of corn they used to plant, and what type of corns were the best. He also mentions the amount of corn they used to plant. He refers to soil wear due to bad plantings in these times, and how pests devastate corn crops. The second recording MHC_FJM_NARR_La_tradicion_de_la_siembra_del_maiz-2 talks about what Mocho’ people used to offer to the earth in order to maintain the balance between human beings and the earth. They offered incense, chicken, alcohol, candles, and flowers to venerate the earth. He goes explaining what the ritual was, and what the result of these rituals were. They had good harvest, and had enough corn for the whole year until the next harvest. He observes that nowadays people who still plant corn do not have any respect for the nature, and that they do not venerate the earth anymore. | |
