Description:This is a six and a half minute video in which Michaela Kupwai explains the story of Ndramei and Hipwedu (which she just recounted in tok ples) in Tok Pisin. Recorded in Michaela Kupwai's haus kuk, with the beach to her left and the bush to her right.
Koro is an Oceanic (Austronesian) language spoken by several hundred people on Manus and Los Negros islands, approximately 200 miles off the north coast of the Papua New Guinea mainland. This documentation consists primarily of recorded narratives and conversations in the Papitalai dialect, spoken in Papitalai, Riu Riu, and Naringel villages.
Ingela is her nickname (a Tok Pisin pronunciation of Michaela). Michaela lives in Papitalai, but I'm not sure where she was born. She is fluent in Koro and Tok Pisin. I estimated her year of birth.
