Title:Craftsmanship team meeting #2: How to build a Naso boat, paddle, and pan
naso023
Coverage:Panama
Date:2016-07-25
Description:In this second meeting of the Crafsmanship team, members discuss the material used for making boats: laurel and cedar. This work requires an axe. One must find a tree of the size one is looking for to make the boat. This type of work takes about one month. In order to make a paddle, one takes a slab of wood left over from making the boat. A boat will last about ten years if it is cared for properly. How do Nasos pull the boat to shore? A work meeting is held and family members and neighbors are invited to pull the boat where the owners of the boat offer fermented drinks and food. This meeting lasts about seven hours depending how far the boat is.
