0088-Komaruri - Isko
Documentation of mythology and shamanic songs of the Nahua, Panoan speaking people of Peruvian Amazon
Contributor:Rafael Atonoima
Coverage:Peru
Date:2001-04-16
Description:A man who loses his pet Isko (Paucar/the oropendula bird) follows it up into the tree to where it had escaped but he is followed by a nasty man who cuts the vine that he had used to climb the tree. In the tree however the man encounters other Paucar who turn out to be his relatives. In this mythic time humans and animals were inter related. His son had gone off hunting wild boar and his wife (the man's daughter-in-law) blew over him with tobacco so he would see the world through Paucar eyes. The son returns and gives the man powerful new types of chilli to return with and he returns with his paucar pets who are the children of the man's paucar son, his grandchildren. On his return the nasty man visits the man who offers him some soup garnished with a powerful chilli which when he drinks it the nasty man dries out and transforms into an anteater.
