Description:Tempest. This was my first attempt to run the Tempest experiment. The Tempest experiment was designed by Bohnemeyer (2004) and consists of pairs of video clips which are minimally distinct in terms of the aspectual relation of the 2 events shown. One participant sees both clips and the other sees one and the task is for the person who saw both to determine through questions which clip the other person saw. The clips that Bohnemeyer used had degraded and so I recorded my own versions in Ghana and attempted to run the task. This first attempt failed. The girls didn't understand what I was asking of them. What they did was for the girl who had seen only one clip to describe it, then the girl who had seen both would report which clip the girl had seen and described. She was always correct and they never discussed the clips or questioned each other. There is a okra soup recipe at the end of the session. English was the language of discussions and elicitation, Avatime was the target language. Rebecca questioned Charity and Dzedzo
