Description:This is one in a series of video files that were shot during a communal meeting held in front of the chief's palace in Ajumbu. This meeting was organized (by both researchers and local community elders) in order to start gathering some Ajumbu ethnohistorical information and samples of local verbal art performances. In this very video, Gladys and Emenentia sing two mbolos, that is, two songs of a genre customarily ascribed to women. The genre is very widespread throughout the Northwest Region of Cameroon (and beyond). Both songs mention sad events involving Ajumbu fellow villagers who moved to the Southwest to work in plantations.
