Title:Possum and Pig Have a Competition
0305-Possum and Pig Have a Competition
Contributor:Leo Vanatsi
Coverage:Papua New Guinea
Date:2012-10-12
Description:Possum and Pig used to live in the trees. Possum noticed that Pig's faeces were very large. He became afraid that men would find Pig's faeces and come and kill them both. One day they decided to compare the size of their faeces. Pig defecated first, and Possum was easily able to spot his faeces. Then Possum defecated. Pig could not find Possum's faeces. Possum told Pig that he should go and live on the ground, lest men come and find his faeces and kill them both. Pig agreed. As he climbed down he damaged the tree, and that particular tree species gets its name from this event.
