Description:Recordings of a session in which the children were doing a verb-elicitation puzzle (developed by Eisenbeiss). After this elicitation game, additional recordings were made of (unstructured) picturebook reading and free play with puzzles and toy cars.
This project is part of the larger research project 'The role of finiteness' and focusses on the acquisition of the structural and functional properties of finiteness in Dutch. The aim of this longitudinal study is to explore the developmental stages in the acquisition of finiteness in 6 normally developing Dutch-learning children and 2 children with Specific Language Impairment.
This file was generated from an IMDI 1.9 file and transformed to IMDI 3.0. The substructure of Genre is replaced by two elements named "Genre" and "SubGenre". The original content of Genre substructure was: Interactional = '', Discursive = '', Performance = ''. These values have been added as Keys to the Content information.
The puzzle used in this session was designed to elicit finite constructions with the verbs 'wash', 'give' and 'bite'. The picture books that were used after the elicitation game were "Hier bin ich zu Hause" (Eberhard & Scheffler) and "Bei uns im Dorf" (Mitgutsch). The elicitation task was clearly too difficult for these children: they put the pieces in, but did not describe the events depicted on the puzzle pieces. They were both more talkative during free play and picture book reading.
