Description:A mythical narative: the story of the cayman. Only half of this story is in the media file.
A project for the analysis and description of the Tiriyó language, based on fieldwork. It started in 1993 (under Dr. Spike Gildea's Northern Brazilian Cariban Languages Documentatino Project, NSF grant DBS-9210130) and continues to the present.
This file was generated from an IMDI 1.9 file and transformed to IMDI 3.0. The substructure of Genre is replaced by two elements named "Genre" and "SubGenre". The original content of Genre substructure was: Interactional = 'Unspecified', Discursive = 'explanation', Performance = 'narrative'. These values have been added as Keys to the Content information.
In this session, Asehpë narrates the story of the cayman -- a mythical narrative. NB: only the second half of the story is preserved in the media file.
Only Tiriyó was used hroughout the session.
Asehpë narrrated the story, while Sérgio listened and recorded.
Sérgio Meira is the main researcher in the Tiriyó descriptive project.
Asehpë is one of Juunare's children. He is a political man; he nows how to play political games and has a strong personality. He is a speaker of H-Tiriyó, and knows a lot about the past and past mythical stories.
Sérgio Meira is also the researcher responsible for the project on the analysis and description of the Tiriyó language.
This file contains only the second half of the story; the first half was in a cassette tape that got lost.
I transcribed the story in town, in a later field trip, with the help of several people: Joo do Vale, ...
The start and end times refer to side 1 (side A) of the cassette tape. This is the second half of the story; the first half (on LSMTAC29JUL9402CI) was lost.
The original tape was given to Dick van den Born, who made me an identical copy. I digitized this copy, which is the source for the MPEG file.
