Description:ENGLISH: Historical narrative that reports how the Trumai people came to live in the Xingu region. It is a very interesting text due to the richness of information it contains. The narrator mentions names of Trumai chiefs from past times, names of old villages, and names of types of food that the Trumai used to eat before coming to the Xingu area. He also talks about the first contacts with Upper Xinguan groups, and how the Trumai eventually got integrated into the region. ----- PORTUGUÊS: Narrativa histórica que relata como o povo Trumai veio viver na região do Xingu. Trata-se de um texto muito interessante pela riqueza de detalhes. O narrador menciona nomes de antigos chefes Trumai, de antigas aldeias e de alimentos que os Trumai costumavam consumir antes de chegar ao Xingu. Também conta como foram os primeiros contatos com povos alto-xinguanos e como foi o processo de integração à região.
The purpose of the project is to document Trumai, a genetically isolate language spoken in Brazil. The archive consists of a collection of texts in the language, plus other kinds of materials relative to the Trumai culture, such as photos, drawings, songs, educational materials, etc.
Narrative about how the Trumai people, who lived in another region of Brazil, came to the Xingu area.

The main speaker is Speaker1. He talks to the researcher, but there are also other people listening to the narration.
Speaker1 was a native speaker of Trumai. He was considered the best storyteller of the Trumai people. He was also an expert in ritual chants, being very respected by other Xinguan groups. He had knowledge about medicinal plants and roots, and shamanism practices. He was old (above 70) when the died in 1995.
Raquel is a Brazilian linguist. She has been working with the Trumai people since 1989. She has a Ph.D. in Linguistics from Rice University (Houston, Texas, U.S.A).
