| Description: | Recording took place during primary school hours (08:30 AM-03:30 PM) at a primary school in a separate classroom. Recording was done by Dorian de Haan between 1984-1986. This is a continuation of DBD DH 053B. | |
| Goal of this project is to get a clear view of the command of Sarnami and/or Sranan of primary school children of Suriname origin and to study their command of Dutch. | ||
| Dorian de Haan talks with 2 girls, Shailinda and Sanjai, about religious celebrations, their trip form Suriname to the Netherlands, going away on vacation and the house they live in. | ||
| Dorian de Haan is the coordinator/collector of this project. She is of Dutch origin. She works at the University of Utrecht, The Netherlands, at the Developmental Psychology department. | ||
| Sanjai is of Sarnami Hindustani origin, she was born in Suriname and at the age of 7 she came to the Netherlands. At home they speak Sarnami; her mother does not have a command of Dutch. According to herself her command of Dutch is not so good. She takes a Hindi language class. She more or less understands Hindi movies. She has 2 sisters and 2 brothers. She is not on Dorian's list of informants. Same girl as in 53B. | ||
| Shailinda is of Sarnami Hindustani origin. She was born in Suriname and at the age of 6/7 she arrived in the Netherlands. The family did not arrived together in the Netherlands. She has a sister and 3 brothers. With her sister Shailinda speaks Dutch. She is not on Dorian's list of informants. Same girl as in 53B. | ||
