| Description: | ENGLISH: Survey made by the researcher Raquel Guirardello-Damian in 1997 about individuals of the Trumai community who can speak the language. The individuals were grouped into three types: (i) native speaker who know the language well. This group consists of adults and older people; (ii) native speakers who potentially know the language but do not speak it very much. This group consists of younger people; (iii) non-native speaker, that is, people from other Xinguan tribes who married Trumai individuals when they were very young and learned the language, using it often. The speakers mentioned in the survey are identified by name and family. ----- PORTUGUÊS: Levantamento feito pela pesquisadora Raquel Guirardello-Damian em 1997, sobre as pessoas da comunidade Trumai que sabem falar a língua. As pessoas foram agrupadas em três tipos: (i) falantes nativos que dominam bem a língua. Este grupo consiste de adultos e pessoas mais idosas; (ii) falantes nativos que potencialmente sabem a língua, mas que não a falam muito. Este grupo consiste de indivíduos mais jovens; (iii) falantes não-nativos, isto é, pessoas de outros povos xinguanos que casaram-se com indivíduos Trumai quando ainda eram bem jovens e aprenderam a língua, usando-a com freqüência. Os falantes mencionados no levantamento são identificados por nome e família. | |
| The purpose of the project is to document Trumai, a genetically isolate language spoken in Brazil. The archive consists of a collection of texts in the language, plus other kinds of materials relative to the Trumai culture, such as photos, drawings, songs, educational materials, etc. | ||
