Coverage:French Polynesia
Description:In this session the narrator tells us how the Taipi dialect ('eo avaangi) came into existence. Two canoes from the Ha'akimoohitu tribe of Taipivai went to Rarotonga in order to get the precious red feathers for their chiefs and princesses. During the voyage one canoe lacks water and they get a kind of coconut oil mixed with genger (huhe) - a body oil - from the other canoe to drink instead. After having drank it, they develop a creeky voice and start talking through the nose. The narrator doubts the authenticity of the events.
