Description:This is the legend of Taikahano, the merman/water sprite from A'akapa (Nuku Hiva). Taikahano was born with fish branchia/gills and was living more in the sea than on land. One day he went fishing with his father and his father was eaten by a big shark. To revenge his father's death, he set his whole village to catch the shark which they eventually did. They recovered the body of his father from the shark's stomach and laid him to rest. After that, Taikahano vanished to live in the sea.
