Description:The informant gives some key biographical details of his life. He talks about his work for the Methodist mission on Croker Island, about the transition of the mission to a government settlement, and about the destructive impact of forced welfare on young people.The informant also describes his work history, away from Croker Island, on a cattle station and for a pearling enterprise. The informant talks about his birthplace. He discusses Reuben Cooper's death, his subsequent separation from the other children (Ronnie, Lorna, Ruby, etc), and their reunion at a meeting on Croker when the informant was already an adult and working at the mission butcher shop. The informant descibes the changes in the eating habits of the younger generation, moving away from bush food towards 'shop food', and states his opinion about the Australian welfare system, and attitudes to work of the young people.
