Description:Recording provided to be deposited by Paak Orim, Viviran Village, Toma LLG. Artist: City Hikers Stringband Title: 'Compilations Recorded by NBC Kalang Studios City Hikers Stringband was formed in 1989 based in Port Moresby, NCD by Misiel Pilak with 3 members, Tukal Vunga, Mutuaina Ellison and Okole Baining from Viviran Village. The String band members were origionally from Varzin Hikers and Jungle Sounds String Bands of Viviran Village. It is a popular string band from Papua New Guinea, active in the 1990s with roots in Port Moresby and Rabaul circles. Their music is a PNG string band style, blending local melodies with covers like "Under Pressure" and originals such as "Pipia Mangi," "Prailak," and "Kolim Bel." String bands like City Hikers were vital to PNG's late-20th-century music scene, evolving from 1960s-70s groups in areas like Boroko (PPM) and influencing modern revivals. They often featured ukulele, guitar, and vocals in community or festival settings around Port Moresby. SIDE A. 1. Iamagit (Kuanua) 2. Allan (Kuanua) 3. A Kini Vartulai (Kuanua) 4.
