Artist: Joe Hakalits with the Blackouts Title: Various songs Recorded at Arawa Technical College by NBC Recording Studios, Arawa in April 1979. The "Blackout Band" of North Bougainville,is associated with local musicians such as the Hakalitz family, who contributed to the development of Papua New Guinean contemporary music. The Hakalitz family is deeply embedded in the musical heritage of Papua New Guinea. Joe Hakalitz, the father of the renowned drummer Ben Hakalitz and percussionist John "Muku" Hakalitz, was part of a generation of musicians who helped shape the local soundscape in Bougainvillean music. The "Blackout Band" contributes to the historic local ensemble that was part of the grassroots music scene in the Autonomous Region of Bougainville during the latter half of the 20th century.
