| Description: | Moab Stringband is one of Papua New Guinea’s best-known stringbands, based in Raluana near Kokopo in East New Britain. It is closely associated with George Telek, whose fame with Painim Wok helped bring the band wider recognition, and its style is described as faster and more rock-driven than many other PNG stringbands. Moab Stringband also appears in the Tabaran project with Not Drowning, Waving, including the song “Abebe”, which has been highlighted as one of their signature pieces. That collaboration helped place Moab within a wider Melanesian fusion scene that crossed PNG and Australian audiences. Rehersals at Baravon village as part of preparations for the project recording sessions and filming. Source: Wantok Musik Fopundation (David Bridie & Steven Gagau, April 2026). Language as given: | |
