Description:Video of Nēvēnek: Ground Music from Torba Province, Vanuatu is part of the 2019 compilation album documenting traditional "ground music" from the Banks Islands in Torba Province (northern Vanuatu), released by Wantok Musik and Bandcamp. Nēvēnek is a compendium of an oral history that is alive and evolving. The Nēvēnek project cover four islands: Gaua (Dolag village), Ureparapara (Leserpla), Mota Lava (Totolag), and Rowa, recorded May 2018 by Andrew Robinson under music directors like Chiefs Willie Plasua (Gaua) and Kenken Fraser (Mota Lava). It ties these sounds to historical themes like blackbirding (Pacific slave trade), missionaries, and decolonization, produced by David Bridie and Sandy Sur.
