| Description: | Gilnara Stringband is a pioneering stringband from Mioko Island of the Duke of York islands of East New Britain Province. They have a unique style of guitar playing that appears to be a plucking of the strings of the guitar in a vigorous style that still sounds perfect and entertaining. Formed around the early 1970s, Gilnata performed original compositions for events like the 1972 Tolai Warwagira Festival, using traditional instrumentation—multiple vocalists (often 10+), guitars and ukuleles. The beat of the songs can be described more like the waves in the ocean. Most of their songs are their own compositions about issues ranging from politics, religion and also depicting their own lifestyles on their islands for entertainment. Notably, their voices are shrilly and at a very high note whilst singing together in the band.. Song List. 001. MR RABBIE NAMALIU (Tok Pisin) 002. IAU GA KAIAN TA NIN RA BOMB (Kuanua) 003.
