Description:Bradley McDonnell and Anton Supriyadi went to the village of Tanjung Agung approximately 6km from Tanjung Betuah. At Arifin's house, we recorded him and Nasiruddin on Arifin's front porch. Anton explained the research and they consented. They were are asked to tell stories. Arifin mostly asked questions of Nasiruddin about the history of Tanjung Agung and about a ceremony that they have called Sengkukho around the time of Idul Fitri. The recording ends with Bradley McDonnell collecting metadata from the speakers. Video recorded on Canon XA-30, audio recorded in two ways: (i) Tascam DR-60 with an Audio Technica Stereo Microphone and (ii) Marantz PMD-561 with two SM-35 headset microphone.
Anton is Bradley McDonnell's main contact in the village. McDonnell lived with Anton while staying in the Nasal villages. Anton is from Bintuhan, Kaur, Bengkulu, and both of his parents are Kaur from the same town. Anton was born in Bintuhan, but moved to Bengkulu city in 1997 to go to Bengkulu University. He graduated in 2006 and moved to Tanjung Betuah, Nasal, Bengkulu in 2007 when he married his wife, Yeniafrida, who is originally from Tanjung Betuah.
Bradley McDonnell is an Assistant Professor at the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He is originally from the USA.
Arifin was born in the Nasal village of Tanjung Baru, and he has lived there his whole life. The village was split into three villages in the 1990's, so he now lives in Tanjung Agung. His mother is Nasal from the village of Tanjung Betuah, and his father is Kaur from the village of Wai Hawang (Maje).
Nasiruddin was born in the Nasal village of Tanjung Baru, and he has lived there since, although the village has now been split into three village. He lives in the village of Tanjung Agung. His mother is Nasal from the village of Ulak Panden, and his father is Nasal from the village of Tanjung Baru.
