| Description: | This is part two of the question and answer session that is archived. The audio and video recordings for this session were made in Mr Gezahegn's wood-workshop where he was busy carving a headrest (borkota), the first ever craft that he taught himself. He begins his conversation telling about the wood-workshop that he runs (the only shop making beds, cupboards, boxes, etc. in Dimalle) but he also talks about how his upbringing and difficult early adult years pushed him to his career now. He tells about training family and friends as apprentice and about his children. My assitants (Asmelash and Aynalem), his family and a large number of onlookers were present during the recording. There is a lot of codeswitch to Amharic and English. Initial transcription was made on paper by research assistants Teshome and Birtukan. Later Mark'os transcribed it on computer. In both cases the script developed for Gamo was used with some adaptations (e..g. using the capital letters of vowels to indicate high tone-accent marking). Later the file was converted to Elan and the transcription changed to IPA symbols by the researcher (Azeb Amha) | |
