0185-History of Santa María
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Contributor:CC
Coverage:Mexico
Date:2013-02-19
Description:In this recording, CC tells what he knows of the history of Santa María and the Chatino people in general. According to his story, the Chatinos have been in the Santa María area for 10,000 years, and there used to be much more water. He says Zenzontepec was settled by Chatinos 5,000 years ago, and when the Spanish arrived, the people were considered wild because they were not baptized. He then gives some folk etymologies for Tlapanalquiahuitl and Chatino. Audio duration [ 00:13:50]
