Title:The festival of La Aurora
0185-The festival of La Aurora
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Contributor:ERH
Coverage:Mexico
Date:2010-02-06
Description:ERH describes the fiesta of La Aurora, the annual village festival. The authorities decide who will be the mayordomo, the festival steward (organizer). He gets money donations in order to secure mezcal for drinking. He makes sure the firewood is gathered and cut. The men make structures and the women grind corn for making tortillas. There is music. He says that in the old days the festival was more beautiful, and now it is changing rapidly somewhat for the worse. The music is different, and bands want to be paid money. The women use electric grinders for the corn. Now there is a big focus on basketball and rodeos. La Aurora is known for having a particularly nice festival in the region, and all guests are provided with food by the community. Audio duration [00:06:31]
