Title:The moon and the harvest
0185-The moon and the harvest
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture

Coverage:Mexico
Date:2010-03-15
Description:TCR explains the traditional practice of only harvesting natural material or crops when the moon is in certain phases. According to the belief, one should only plant crops, harvest crops, chop wood, or gather vines for building when the moon is in its third quarter or beyond in the cycle. If these activities are done without good moon then the materials or crops will get devoured by weevils or other harmful pests. People used to have wood and vine built granaries in which their corn would be stored up to two years without being destroyed if the wood and crop were harvested with good moon.Audio duration [00:04:18]
