Title:The elder woman
0185-The elder woman
Documentation of Zenzontepec Chatino language and culture
Contributor:TCR
Coverage:Mexico
Date:2010-07-31
Description:TCR relates a folk tale in which the god of nature, the mother earth, appeared in the form of an old woman and passed though the Chatino lands. She asked the workers in different places what they were doing and what they wanted to harvest. Those who were rude and sarcastic, saying they would plant pure rocks or cacti, harvested those things. The one who was respectful and asking for good harvest was rewarded. According to the legend this is how it came to be that certain parts of the land are pure rock, others are pure cactus, and others are good for planting crops. Audio duration [00:15:29]
