Title:The toad and the beaded lizard
0185-The toad and the beaded lizard

Coverage:Mexico
Date:2009-06-15
Description:TCR relates a story that a friend told him. His friend was out hunting deer, hiding and blowing a reed instrument made to mimic deer calls. The hunter looked down and saw a toad moving. A beaded lizard (relative of gila monster) approached the toad and bit it. Thinking the toad was dead from its strong poison, the lizard went away. The toad got up shortly afterwards and went in pursuit. It caught up to the lizard and bit it. The lizard died very quickly. The message is that toad poison is much stronger than the poison of the lizard. This story came up in free association while working on the study of ZEN ethnomedicine.Audio duration [00:03:37]
