Description:ENGLISH: Names of snakes, elicited with the help of illustrations from the book "Amphibs and Reptiles of Brazil" (1981), by Eurico Santos. The names were investigated with two Trumai consultants. Several terms are actually descriptive expressions (for instance, "the snake that has a rough skin"). To investigate names of snakes is not a very easy task, given that the Trumai speakers not always see them (it is different from the case of fish, which are part of the daily life of the Xinguan groups). The list was recorded for documentation purposes, but this topic needs to be further explored.
The purpose of the project is to document Trumai, a genetically isolate language spoken in Brazil. The archive consists of a collection of texts in the language, plus other kinds of materials relative to the Trumai culture, such as photos, drawings, songs, educational materials, etc.
